Back in the day, the Taj Mahal was surrounded by untamed fruit trees and flowers, which attracted birds and other wildlife. Before British colonial rule, gardens were filled with fragrant flowers, tall trees, and exotic birds. There were fruit trees of mango, lemon, and pomegranate. Hibiscus and jasmine plants scented the air.
